LILLINGTON, N.C. — One teenaged girl died and three others were hospitalized after a single-car crash in Harnett County Friday night.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the girls, students at Harnett Central, were headed to a football game at the school when driver Kaleigh Forney, 16, went off the road to the right, over-corrected and flipped her vehicle.

Forney was taken to Duke Hospital. Two of her passengers – Briana Bain, 15,  and Ashton Boyce, 17 – were taken to Betsey Johnson Hospital. All three were expected to recover.

A fourth girl, Krystal Wayman, 17, was thrown from the car and died. Troopers said Wayman was not wearing a seat belt.

The wreck happened at Old U.S. Highway 421 and McDougald Road in Lillington.

Forney will likely face charges for violation of provisional license laws, which prohibit young drivers from transporting multiple other teens, and possibly a charge of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, Trooper J.B. Harvey said.

Harvey said speed was a factor in the crash.
