Teen killed in Orange County wreck

Posted March 31, 2011

— An Ohio teenager was killed in a three-vehicle wreck on Interstate 40 West in Orange County Wednesday afternoon, state troopers said.

Jose Hermi Santos Tobias, of Charlotte, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle in the wreck that killed Traven Olsson Keigley, 16, of Pickerington, Ohio.

Troopers said that Tobias' Pontiac SUV hydroplaned near the I-40 split with Interstate 85 and struck a Nissan Murano and a 2008 Dodge pickup truck.

The Nissan, which was occupied by five people, struck the guard rail, flipped over and landed in a ditch, troopers said. Keigley, who did not have a seat belt on, was ejected from the back seat.

The four other occupants of the Nissan, two occupants of the Dodge and Tobias were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Tobias was also charged with driving without an operator's license.

The reason that this man had no license is probably because he is Illegal and can not get a drivers license in NC and as for insurance Illegals cant get that without an drivers license. But we can thank Durham's Mayor Bill Bell (snicker) for giving Illegls a consulate ID to prove Illegal Alienship to the US.

The insurance company commercials say 1 in 5 drivers have no insurance. Of course our premiums (those that are covered) are costing us 20% more because of those that do not want to pay (like Mr. Tobias here). Think about it... 20% of $400/year is $80/year!

AGREED Gingerlynn! Had this driver? NOT had a vehicle innocent victims would not have been killed or injured. He should not be allowed to own a vehicle and if anyone else, friend, business or otherwise elects to loan him a car it should be confiscated and sold at auction with the state keeping all proffits. Maybe people would think a little more about who they give their car keys to if they might lose the car.
