Teen killed in Lumberton hit-and-run crash

— A 17-year-old died Saturday night after being hit by a car while walking east on Wire Grass Road in Lumberton, authorities said.

Austin Stevey-Ray Collins was walking with the flow of traffic when he was hit from behind at about 7:15 p.m. According to authorities, the suspect, who was driving a light-colored SUV or van, left the scene.

Collins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call the North Carolina State Highway Patrol at 910-618-5555.

Authorities believe the suspect's vehicle suffered extensive front-end damage.

    Yet another victim of a hit and run! So sad. Probably a driver either drunk or distracted by their phone. It makes no sense for so many people to die this way. Prayers for the family
