BROADWAY, N.C. — A Western Harnett High School student died Thursday night after a single vehicle accident.

Police said Danny Ray Stone Jr, 17, of 146 Tingen Road in Broadway, was traveling North on Tingen Road when his vehicle ran off the right side of the road.

Stone overcorrected and went left of center, then ran back off the right side of the road, striking a ditch, a tree and then a fence, police said. The vehicle flipped four times before coming to rest off the right side of the road.

Stone was transported to Central Carolina Hospital where he died early Friday morning.

Authorities said Stone was wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol was not involved in the crash.

It is unknown why Stone swerved off the road. The teen was about a quarter-mile from his home when the accident occurred.

Stone was supposed to serve as the Chief Junior Marshall at Friday night’s graduation at Western Harnett High School, school officials said. At the ceremony, friends and family wore ribbons in his honor.
