TARBORO, N.C. — One of four teenagers injured early Sunday in a wreck south of Tarboro has died, authorities said Wednesday.

Randy Higgs, 18, died at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

He was a passenger in a car that crossed the center line of N.C. Highway 33, went airborne over a water-filled ditch and crashed on the other side, authorities said.

The driver, Timothy Suggs, 18, of Rocky Mount, fell asleep at the wheel, authorities said.

Suggs was listed in fair condition Wednesday at Vidant, while another passenger, William Ruffin II, 18, was in critical condition.
