Durham, N.C. — A Durham teen has been indicted in connection with a Thanksgiving weekend wreck that killed one person and injured another.
Joel Duran, 16, is charged with manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
A westbound sport utility vehicle went out of control on Interstate 40 between Hammond Road and Rock Quarry Road and flipped on Nov. 24. Investigators said they believe drugs and speed possibly played roles in the wreck.
Elizabeth Arch, 23, of Raleigh, and Duran's cousin, Zepherino Duran, 17, were ejected from the SUV. Arch was killed, and Zepherino Duran was critically injured.
