— A 16-year-old Rocky Mount boy was in critical condition Monday morning after being shot outside of 120 Otis Lane shortly after noon Sunday, police said.

An unidentified male approached Derrie Smith and shot the teen in the lower abdomen at close range, police said.

Smith was taken to Nash General Hospital and then flown to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call Rocky Mount Police Capt. Martin McCoy at 252-972-1485 or Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.
