COATS, N.C. — Harnett County authorities recovered the body of a teen from a farm pond near Coats on Wednesday afternoon.

Hector Ochoa-Velquez, 17, and a 12-year-old boy were fishing from a metal jon boat on the pond, off McGee Barefoot Lane, shortly before 1 p.m. when the boat began taking on water and the boys fell out, authorities said.

A 13-year-old boy who was on the shore swam out to help and pulled the 12-year-old to safety, assuming that Ochoa-Velquez could swim, authorities said.

When the two younger boys got to shore, they saw that Ochoa-Velquez hadn't resurfaced, and they went for help.

The Harnett County Sheriff's Office dive team searched the pond and recovered the teen's body at about 2:30 p.m.

Deputies said the drowning was an accident and that no charges will be filed.
