Posted March 6, 2008

— A Cumberland County man charged with bringing a gun on the campus of Jack Britt High School was released on bond after a hearing Thursday.

Reginald Franklin Jr., 18, of 3611 Ireland Drive, allegedly brought a semi-automatic handgun and ammunition to Jack Britt High School on Wednesday afternoon after a fight broke out on the campus, authorities said.

Franklin was held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $2,000 secured bond.

My child is a student at Jack Britt and this is beyond scary for us. This incident actually happened after school and my child was at a team practice when the fight broke out. Jack Britt tends to be a very safe school and has a good reputation but this goes to show you that this kind of thing can happen anywhere. I am just thankful to God that the gun wasn't used!

"Good Zeus. It wasn't so long ago that I was in high school and middle school, and bringing a gun to school was unthinkable. Now it seems so commonplace...lornadoone" Times have changed, and they aren't always for the better. Time to love Zeus even more.

    To yeahright -
2nd Amendment rights are even more important these days for law-abiding citizens considering the increasing criminal element in our society.

We are hearing about this happening way to much in the news lately. If the school boards and the state dont start taking this serious and stop giving the kids a slap on the wrist then the same thing that happened at Columbine will happen in NC. I say if they bring anytype of weapon to school then put them in jail without bond. Most of the kids that bring weapons to school could care less if they get kicked out of school.
