DURHAM, N.C. — Police on Wednesday charged a 16-year-old in a fatal shooting in Durham two weeks ago.

Shawn Leroy Butler, of Durham, was arrested on Mine Valley Road in Raleigh by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Joint Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force, police said.

Butler was charged with first-degree murder and two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Shots were fired into a home in the 600 block of Lee Street on Aug. 10, killing 18-year-old Rakwon Smith, police said.

Investigators said Butler and Smith are acquaintances, and the shooting doesn't appear to have been random.
