Teen arrested in Southern Pines shooting

— Police arrested a Moore County teen Friday after he shot an 18-year-old man in the groin, officials said. 

According to police, the arrest stemmed from an incident that took place at 135 SE Broad Street in Southern Pines on Oct. 6. During the incident, a man was shot in the groin. 

James Howard Campbell III, 16, of Aberdeen, was arrested on charges of felonious assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill or inflict serious injury and possession of a controlled substance, police said.

At the time of the arrest Campbell was in possession of a handgun believed to have been used in the assault, according to police. While in custody, Campbell was found to be carrying marijuana in his shoe. 

Authorities said the case was still under investigation.

Campbell was being held in the Moore County Jail under a $350,000 secured bond Friday. He is due to appear in court on Nov. 4.
