Teen arrested in Durham parking lot shooting

Durham police have arrested a teen in the shooting of a 17-year-old girl in the parking lot behind the Main Street Apartments last week, spokeswoman Kammie Michael said Monday.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police have arrested a teen in the shooting of a 17-year-old girl in the parking lot behind the Main Street Apartments last week, spokeswoman Kammie Michael said Monday.

Javonte Christopher Champelle, 16, of Commerce Street, was charged Saturday with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, felony conspiracy, going armed to the terror of the public and discharging a firearm within city limits.

He was being held Monday in the Durham County jail under a $750,000 bond.

The victim's name has not been released, but police said she was shot in the thigh with a small-caliber weapon at 621 E. Main St. on Aug. 15.
