SANFORD, N.C. — A 17-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting Tuesday morning that left an 18-year-old Sanford man dead, according to authorities.

Urbano Garcia-Sanchez, of 2109 Louise Street, is charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Trevon Johns.

According to police, Garcia-Sanchez shot and killed Johns while outside of a home in the 1100 block of James Street at about 1 a.m.

Johns was transported to the hospital where he died of his injuries.

According to Johns' father, James Harrington, someone was riding through the neighborhood, shooting a weapon.

"A black SUV came through. They were just shooting in the air and then they came back through...everyone was running. My son took off and he got hit in the back of the head," Harrington said.

Rhonda Sutton lives in the neighborhood with her two small children. She said she now lives in fear due to the number of shootings.

"It's just ridiculous," Sutton said. "It's like we're scared to even walk to our van, just to go anywhere because we don't know what is going to happen."

The case is still under investigation.
