RALEIGH, N.C. — A computer network problem caused technical difficulties with the state Division of Employment Security website Sunday, keeping some residents from filing their weekly unemployment claims.

Larry Parker, acting public information officer for the agency, said Monday that the problem was with the state’s computer network, and it was fixed by 5 p.m.

The Division of Employment Security typically processes about 70,000 claims on Sundays, Parker said. About 60,000 claims went through this Sunday because of the technical problems.

He said all those who couldn’t file Sunday should file Monday. They will receive their benefits with a 24-hour delay.
