RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Teacher Academy has filed a petition with the state Office of Administrative Hearings, seeking back pay for its employees from the Department of Public Instruction.

The academy, a professional development program for teachers, was transferred to DPI in 2007, but workers in the program weren't granted longevity pay by the department until last year.

The petition seeks an order to require DPI to provide longevity pay for academy employees for 2007, 2008 and 2009. A hearing will be held on the matter on Sept. 26.
