Taylortown Councilor Keeps Seat Amid Drug Charges

Posted August 1, 2007

— A town councilor in Taylortown is keeping his seat in Town Hall, despite facing drug charges.

Lonnie Jones III was arrested July 26 after Moore County sheriff's deputies said they found $3,600 worth of marijuana growing in his back yard. He was charged with seven felonies and two misdemeanors.

The town council voted Tuesday to allow Jones to keep his seat. Jones told council members that his legal problems would not interfere with town business.

This is truly a show. These people should make their city council meetings public, lots of entertainment value, people would pay to witness the idiocy, and sell concessions to supplement the town coffers. I'll have a coke and a Bob Marley to go please.

This reminds me of when the mayor of D.C., Marion Barry, was arrested on cocaine charges. Caught on video tape and still ended up put back in office. We know that D.C. stands for dumb citizens, evidently many of them have relocated to Taylortown.

What a joke. I agree that it definitely WAS a racial thing to keep him on. But also, this is a VERY poor and uneducated town. If you look at the link above, he may be one of the best candidates they have available. I agree that he is probably a supplier to one or more of the council members. And in that small town, he's probably considered everyone's "Big Daddy". And No One tells Big Daddy 'NO'! This town is a total joke! Maybe as someone else mentioned, we can do an awesome selling job, and get South Carolina to annex the town. I remember a town in VA that was flooded and had major landslides. The government paid to relocate the "entire" town about 20 miles away. Maybe we can arrange the Feds to relocate this town somewhere near Bluffton, SC.

Maybe Taylortown is the kind of place that you have to do drugs to survive......

Maybe Taylortown is the kind of town that you have to do some sort of drugs to be able to live there.

I am sure there was no racial bias at all in their vote.
