TARBORO, N.C. — A Tarboro couple was found dead in their home Monday morning after an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said.

Edgecombe County deputies went to the home on N.C. Highway 97 at about 6:40 a.m. after someone called requesting them to check on the well-being of the home's occupants.

Deputies found Ann Perry, 71, shot to death in the bedroom and Curtis Lee Perry, 72, dead in another room with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

Investigators found no signs of forced entry or any struggle inside the home.

Curtis Perry retired as the assistant principal of Tarboro High School in 1996 after serving Tarboro City Schools and Edgecombe County Public Schools for 30 years. Ann Perry was a teacher at W.A. Pattillo School who retired in 2000 after 32 years of service with Tarboro City Schools and Edgecombe County Public Schools.
