Tarboro apartment complex catches fire

The Hawthorn Court Apartments, at 1609 Barlow Road, caught fire just after 5 p.m.

TARBORO, N.C. — An apartment building in Tarboro caught fire Sunday afternoon, police said.

The fire at Hawthorn Court Apartments, at 1609 Barlow Road, started just after 5 p.m. in the upper floor of the building, the Tarboro Fire Department said. Everyone in that building was evacuated.

Four apartments were completely destroyed. A cat was injured. No other injuries were reported.

There was no word on what caused the fire.
