Posted — UpdatedTonight, the Tar Heel Traveler will tell his 1,000th story. He has visited every county in the state and told so many great tales.
There is a one-hour special tonight featuring some of the most memorable stories since the segment debuted five years ago. The special airs at 7 p.m. tonight on WRAL-TV.
To honor our friend Scott Mason, we decided to pick five of our favorite Tar Heel Traveler segments!
Possum Drop - Clay's Corner is home to the annual Possum Drop on New Year's Eve.
Hiccup man - We meet a Laurinburg man who said he has hiccuped about 10 times each minute since 1962. Wonder if he is stil hiccuping?
Raleigh's 'White Fred Sanford' Runs Vintage Store - Brian Ownbey, the self-described "white Fred Sanford of Raleigh," runs Father and Son, a vintage store, specializing in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Make sure you watch this one all the way to the end to see WRAL anchor David Crabtree's reaction.
Maw's Biscuits - The Tar Heel Traveler loves the N.C. State Fair and he always highlights the best traditions there. Here we meet biscuit baker Maw Hutto. She is so much fun, they have covered her numerous times. In 2011, they did an entire package about her advice.
The tale of Spaghetti - The bizarre story of a a legendary corpse referred to as "spaghetti."

Every day is Halloween at the Myers House - Kenny Caperton built a house in Hillsborough that is nearly identical to Michael Myers' house in the 1978 movie "Halloween."
Love letter shows bond between Fayetteville couple - Tar Heel Traveler Scott Mason tells the story of a husband and wife, the tragedy that changed their lives, and the Christmas letter that captures their eternal love that was nearly severed. (Get your tissues for this one, it is heartwarming and a bit of a tearjerker!)
