Winter at N.C. State Parks

I'll be ready for a good walk on Jan. 1 after the past month of Christmas treats.

Thankfully, N.C. State Parks offers plenty of options for guided hikes in our state's beautiful parks during its series of First Day Hikes on the first day of 2017.

Locally, the state parks in the Triangle area all will offer something.

At Eno River State Park in Durham, rangers will lead a two-mile and a four-mile hike.

Falls Lake State Recreation Area in Raleigh will host a .75 mile scavenger hunt designed for kids ages 6 to 12. (Reservations are required for this one. Call the park office at 919-676-1027 to sign up).

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area hosts a 2.7-mile hike. (This one is more challenging).

And Umstead State Park in Raleigh will offer a 1.3-mile hike along the Pott's Branch Trail, which is rated as an easy hike.

The state parks' website has more information about these events and others across the state. The beautiful photos in the attached image gallery are inspiring me to get out there and explore some places I've never been!
