— An SUV crashed into a Clayton home on Monday night, making the home uninhabitable.

Officials said the white SUV was driving westbound on N.C. Highway 42 near Johnston Medical Center. Around 10:45 p.m., the vehicle struck a traffic island at high speed, lost control and smashed into the home.

The driver, who was not identified, and two children in the SUV were taken to WakeMed for treatment. No one was inside the home at the time of the crash, but a dog escaped unharmed.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

It's the drivers texting, or otherwise distracted by their 'smart' phones

This is getting ridiculous. Something happens almost weekly at this location, where two lanes narrow to one and a left-turn lane with an island, all clearly marked. It's not the road- it's the drivers!
