SUV driver charged in school bus wreck

— Authorities charged an SUV driver Friday in connection with a Thursday afternoon wreck involving a school bus.

Shannon Banks, 34, of Willow Spring, was charged with reckless driving. Authorities said they believe she fell asleep while driving, and her SUV crossed the center line at collided head-on with a Johnston County school bus at the intersection of N.C. Highway 210 and N.C. Highway 50.

The bus had just left McGee's Crossroads Elementary School when the wreck occurred, authorities said.

Four students, the bus driver and Banks were taken to WakeMed for treatment of minor injuries and were released late Thursday.

    Careless and reckless operation of a vehicle , your too tired to drive but you decide to drive anyway, thats being careless and reckless

    There are two types of reckless driving charges in nc:

    The first one being in willful and wanton disregard and the second being without due caution and circumspection.

    I don't understand the "wreckless driving" charge. Certainly she deserved to be charged with something, but wreckless to me implies she was intentionally driving in a wreckless manner.

    It actually occurred a little further down the hill toward Angier--between Dave's Gas and Grill and the welding shop. Sometime last year a dump truck ran off the road near that same spot and the driver was killed.

    This is not the intersection of 50 & 210. Must have happened on down 210 a ways.
