NC officials stress vigilance after suspicious package found
The North Carolina Department of Administration building, at 116 W. Jones St. in Raleigh, was evacuated for about an hour Thursday afternoon due to reports of a suspicious package.
Posted — UpdatedA member of Gov. Pat McCrory's staff saw the package on the first floor of the building, at 116 W. Jones St. in downtown Raleigh, and reported it to authorities. A hazmat crew arrived on the scene around 5 p.m.
The package was removed from the building and sent to a lab for testing.
No one was injured, and employees were allowed back into the building around 5:45 p.m.
Governor's office spokeswoman Kim Genardo said everyone should be more vigilant following the events in Boston, Washington and Texas this week.
"We had a very aware staff member do the right thing and report something that did not look right to the authorities," Genardo said. "Boston and Texas, all very sad events, I think it has put everyone's radar up."
