RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Administration building was evacuated for about an hour Thursday afternoon due to reports of a suspicious package.

A member of Gov. Pat McCrory's staff saw the package on the first floor of the building, at 116 W. Jones St. in downtown Raleigh, and reported it to authorities. A hazmat crew arrived on the scene around 5 p.m.

The package was removed from the building and sent to a lab for testing.

No one was injured, and employees were allowed back into the building around 5:45 p.m.

Governor's office spokeswoman Kim Genardo said everyone should be more vigilant following the events in Boston, Washington and Texas this week.

"We had a very aware staff member do the right thing and report something that did not look right to the authorities," Genardo said. "Boston and Texas, all very sad events, I think it has put everyone's radar up."
