SPRING LAKE, N.C. — One of two men charged in a string of robberies in Fayetteville was charged Thursday with trying to rob a discount store in Spring Lake, police said.

Christopher Martin Gordon, 25, of Salmon Drive in Fayetteville, was charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Martin and Don Antonio Flournoy, 47, of Abundant Drive in Hope Mills, were arrested late Monday and charged in nine robberies in Fayetteville between Saturday and Monday. The robberies occurred at eight gas station convenience stores and a Subway restaurant.

Spring Lake police said Gordon tried to rob the Family Dollar store in the Skyland Shopping Center shortly before noon Monday but left the store when he saw a second clerk in the back of the store.
