Suspected drunken driver hits bicyclist in Zebulon

Posted February 20, 2011

— A suspected drunken driver struck a bicyclist in Zebulon Saturday evening, according to an arrest warrant.

Police stated in the warrant that Timothy Wilson Hodge, 52, struck the bicyclist along West Gannon Avenue. Hodge kept driving, but an officer who witnessed the wreck stopped his car and arrested him, according to the warrant.

The bicyclist was treated for minor injuries at WakeMed in Raleigh.

Hodge, of 2355 Old U.S. Highway 64 in Spring Hope, tested for a blood alcohol content level of 0.22, and the officer found an open container of alcohol in the passenger seat of his car, the warrant stated.

Police said they also found a 12-gauge shotgun in his car.

Hodge was charged with felony hit-and-run causing injury and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was placed in the Wake County jail under a $20,000 secured bond and scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Police said that he was convicted of felony maintaining a vehicle or dwelling place for a contraband substance in 1986.

This guy has no respect for the law, so why do the courts treat him so tenderly. He sure didn't treat the injured cyclist so nicely.

agree with local. Bond should be higher and I hope he gets some jail time for this to think about what he did and how he could have kill this person or himself.

Good job to the officer on the scene! but $20,000 for cyclist hit-and-run and illegal firearm possession is insulting! Mr. Hodge is basically one step away from being a killer and definitely someone we want to keep off our streets.
