FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police on Tuesday identified a suspect in an attack on a convenience store clerk two weeks ago.

A 50-year-old woman was working alone overnight at the Hess-Wilco station at 3706 Raeford Road on Nov. 9 when a man tried to buy a case of beer, police said. When she told him state law prohibited the sale of beer after 2 a.m., he began punching her.

The man stole some money from the register and some cigarettes before leaving.

The woman, whose name wasn't released, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. She sustained serious injuries to her face, including fractured bones, but they were not life-threatening, police said.

Warrants have been issued charging Anthony Darnell Lee, 31, of 1109 West Drive, with attempted murder, assault inflicting serious bodily injury and common law robbery.

Anyone with information about Lee's whereabouts is asked to call the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
