— Police on Monday identified a man they say fled on foot early Saturday after a high-speed chase in Hope Mills ended in gunfire.

Ryan Marchon Bingham, 24, was a passenger in a 1993 Lincoln Towncar that Hope Mills police tried to pull over during a drug investigation, police said.

A chase ensued, and when the Lincoln rammed two law enforcement vehicles on National Drive, officers fired at the car. Kevin Dejon Grissett, 25, was wounded and later died.

Police said Bingham fled the area after Grissett was shot. He has numerous outstanding drug charges and is wanted in Virginia in connection with the violation of a court order.

Bingham, whose last known address is on Palmerland Drive in Hope Mills, is considered armed and dangerous, police said. Anyone who sees him or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call police.

Both officers involved in Grissett's shooting remain on administrative leave pending a State Bureau of Investigation review of the incident.
