NEW BRITAIN, CONN. — A New Britain man has been arrested in North Carolina, hours after his wife was found dead in their home in Connecticut.

New Britain police say Juan Palafox was being held in Fayetteville on Thursday as a fugitive from justice. New Britain Superior Court issued an arrest warrant later in the day, charging the 32-year-old with murder and setting a $5 million bond. He was originally charged with violating a restraining order.

Thirty-year-old Dia Palafox was found dead Thursday morning on the kitchen floor. Police say there were signs of trauma to the body.

Juan Palafox was taken into custody during a traffic stop on Interstate 95, authorities said. He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $1 million bond.

He was scheduled to be in court Friday as he awaits extradition to Connecticut.
