A Raleigh man arrested Monday after a North Carolina State University student was robbed on campus now faces charges of breaking into a home and stealing seven N.C. State athletics rings, police said Tuesday.

Michael Anthony Hinton, 18, is charged with breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering.

An arrest warrant states that Hinton broke into a home on Foxwood Drive in Raleigh on Oct. 29 and stole the rings, computer equipment and a briefcase, which were valued at $4,420 combined.

The home belongs to Bruce Winkworth, who is a former assistant media relations director for N.C. State's athletics department and a longtime sports information director for the Wolfpack baseball team.

Annabelle Myers, who oversees the department's media relations office, said it's not unusual for Winkworth to have several athletics rings. Teams that go to postseason tournaments or a football bowl game routinely give sports information officials the same rings that are awarded to the athletes, she said.

The value of the rings is capped, Myers said, because of NCAA limits on gifts players can receive.

On Monday, Hinton was charged with robbing an N.C. State student at knifepoint near the E.S. King Village graduate student housing complex.

Glad they caught this guy. As an NC State student I feel a little bit safer on campus now. And PacknoPride you need to learn how to spell, insults are better spelled correctly.

What kind of rings would someone have that works at state kollege? What have they every won to earn a ring?
