— A man who, authorities say, broke into a Warren County home on Friday has died from gunshot wounds he received at the time.

The Warren County Sheriff's Office said three men kicked in a door to a home on Willis Pinnell Road in Warrenton around 1 p.m. Friday.

Two people were home at the time, the sheriff's office said.

At some point, John B. Owens, of Sulphur Springs Road, was shot. He died Saturday at Durham Regional Hospital.

The two other men involved in the break-in fled the scene and remain at large.

Authorities say the case remains under investigation and that no charges have been filed as of Monday afternoon.

Investigators would not say who shot Owens or if he was armed.

@lowepg obviously you are not understanding what I meant when I stated weather it was right or wrong so I'm goin to elaborate my statement. What I'm saying is it should not matter he did not deserve to die....because of it the death penalty is a very harsh punishment and like I stated before not even some lifers in prison for murder receive that. So to answer your question who doesn't know that was wrong...but the outcome in MY opinion...definately Was!

"And you never know because he was thinking about his kids that might have been the reason he chose to make that decision...weather it was right or wrong."

"weather" it was right or wrong? Seriously? Are you joking? Regardless of the motive- the one thing we do know is it is WRONG to commit a home invasion?

Are you really not sure if this felony crime might be right or wrong?

i am really appauled at the comments bein made on hear,no it is not right to break in someones home but you never know what a person is going through and just because you read an article that isn't even giving you too much information in depth how can you assume as to what really went on.There are people in prison now for murder and rape that are still alive so why is death what this suspect deserved if they didn't.You have to put yourself in this person's families shoes how do you think they will feel reading the comments that are being made do you know the choices your own children are out making when you are not around? What if it were them that this happened too? And you never know because he was thinking about his kids that might have been the reason he chose to make that decision...weather it was right or wrong.

"The Warren County Sheriff's Office said three men kicked in a door to a home on Willis Pinnell Road in Warrenton around 1 p.m. Friday."

this is not a B&E this is a HOME INVASION by 3 criminals. Deadly force was warranted and used to the fullest extent. I don't need a Castle Doctrine or a Stand Your Ground law to do what is right and necessary to protect me and my family.

I think it is a sentence that allows no appeal. Great job to the person behind the gun. There is no telling what could have happened if they didnt have the gun in their possession at the time the offender broke into the residence. Tax Dollars saved....Hundreds, Homeowners hurt.....0, Offenders that will not victimize anyone else.....1, the whole situation......Priceless!!!

    @iwasjustsaying
"I would hope that others would think twice before trying to take something that doesn't belong to them..."

Would you hope that they would think twice about killing you? You keep your hope. I will keep my life.

"iwasjustsaying" - I understand your point however our prisons are full and people like this just keep coming in and damaging our homes, stealing our stuff and invading our personal space in the most disrespectful way. So while it seems harsh to say "kill them", at some point you have to take a stand for what is right and if they cared about their families, childrens, etc. they would be at home with them not out doing this. It is time that we stand together and say, enough is enough and teach these people that we are not going ot take it. If you read the news you see it the other way around where the invader is killing the resident way too often and THAT is what is sad in my opinion.

"it is really scary how everyone here is like "yeah, KILL HIM!"....I mean these ARE people....with parents and brothers and sisters, possibly children...."

It's really scary that people feel entitled to break into your home. I don't think people are rejoicing at the death, but at the fact this perp can't do this anymore and the hope that others will not do it from fear of a similar outcome. If he had been with his parents, siblings and kids instead of breaking into this home, this wouldn't have happened. No one to blame but himself.

Awesome job protecting your rights.....Thank God we have a right to bear arms.....If he didn't have a gun the victim and his family could have been killed......SO you liberals who think you are going to change the gun laws can keep wishing...It will never happen and this is why!
