Posted — UpdatedJujuan Maquis Cox, 28, of 106 Evelyn Circle in Dudley, was arrested at a motel in Smithfield at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday on two counts of murder.
Authorities have said that additional charges are possible.
Lt. Thomas Flores, with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, said Cox went to a home at 1172-B Old Mount Olive Highway in Mount Olive around 9:45 p.m. Sunday and began shooting into the house and a vehicle with an assault rifle.
Four people were shot, including Jamaal Anthony Kornegay and his cousin, Nakiea Felicia Garner, who were found dead at the home.
A third victim, Tre Stokes, had a gunshot wound to his thigh, and a fourth victim, Leonard Darden, had fled the scene during the shooting, authorities said. Deputies found him a few blocks away with a gunshot wound to his arm.
Stokes and Darden were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
A motive for the shooting isn't clear. Flores said the victims told investigators that it might have been over a woman or a drug debt.
Garner was a hairdresser and a student at Miller Motte Technical College, friends said. Kornegay produced beats for rap music.
