Suspect arrested in Moore County rock quarry death

Moore County authorities said Friday that they have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a man found floating in a rock quarry last month.

CARTHAGE, N.C. — Moore County authorities said Friday that they have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a man found floating in a rock quarry last month.

Ricky Joe Harvel, 32, of 175 Eagle Branch Road, Eagle Springs, has been charged with one count of murder and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, in connection with the death of Gregory Lance Bullock.

Bullock, 34, was reported missing on June 18, and his body found June 26 in a quarry on Glendon Carthage Road, about 6 miles west of Sanford.

He was last seen on June 13, and his black Honda Accord was found at a recreation area on N.C. Highway 42 at Deep River in Lee County on the same day that he was reported missing.

Authorities have not commented on a motive for the crime.

Harvel was being held in the Moore County jail without bond for the murder charge and under a $50,000 bond for the firearms charges.
