Survivor of Church Stabbing Awake, Alert
Nearly two weeks after she and a coworker were stabbed multiple times inside a Rocky Mount Church's kitchen, Eve Beasley is awake and communicating with her family.

GREENVILLE, N.C. — The survivor of a Rocky Mount church stabbing nearly two weeks ago is awake and alert, her son said Tuesday.
Eve Beasley, 60, woke up Sunday after being under heavy sedation for several days following the Oct. 18 stabbing inside Lakeside Baptist Church, her son, Billy Beasley said.
But she still is not speaking. Instead, she is communicating nonverbally with her family, her son said. She remains on a respirator, most of the time, but has been off and breathing on her own in short increments.
Beasley and her longtime friend and coworker at the local Meals on Wheels, Debbie Kornegay, were preparing meals for delivery when Tommy Lee Holiday, 30, allegedly stabbed each of them multiple times, Rocky Mount police said.
Kornegay, 58, died at a local hospital. Family members said Beasley was stabbed 10 times in the face, neck stomach, among other places.
Holiday faces a number of charges, including first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
Prosecutors have said they plan to seek the death penalty.
