Surgeon General Discusses Childhood Obesity in Raleigh

— Acting U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Steven Galson was in Raleigh Friday to promote a national childhood overweight and obesity prevention initiative, “Healthy Youth for a Healthy Future.”

Galson met with officials and students from Barwell Elementary School and take part in a trail walk. North Carolina is the third state he will visit to promote the new initiative.

    Children are obese because 1)parents don't cook real food 2)parents feed kids a steady diet of fast foods 3)doctors and dietricians have lied to us about saturated fats and cholesterol and tricked us into eating unnatural manmade fats instead of natural fats 4)too much high fructose corn syrup 5)too much fan ny time and no real play time

    When I was a kid, our parents made us go outside and play. We were not allowed to stay inside and sit.

    The only cause of weight gain/obesity is eating too much and not exercising......has nothing to do with chemicals. Just eat right and get off your rear!!

    I wonder if the SG will mention recent studies showing bisphenol A (from polycarbonates, like milk bottles) and other common chemicals cause metabolic changes that seem to cause obesity...
