— The Wake County Public School System is inviting the public to meet the three final candidates hoping to lead the state's largest school district.

Dr. Dana Bedden, superintendent of the Irving Independent School System in Irving, Texas; Ann Clark, deputy superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools; and Dr. James Merrill, superintendent of Virginia Beach City Public Schools in Virginia Beach, Va., are visiting Wake County Tuesday.

The public is invited to a community forum from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh. Candidates will take questions from the audience.

On Wednesday, Bedden, Clark and Merrill will meet with the Board of Education for a final interview.

Board Chairman Keith Sutton has said he hopes to have a new schools chief in place by July 1.

" Note to Tata lovers he was a right wing candidate selected from the right wing board." scorpitotwo

I agree. He was way overqualified for the position.

"Note to Tata lovers he was a right wing candidate selected from the right wing board. He had little educational knowledge. He came from cooperate America of all places. Burns was before him and left because of the polarization on the board. Now we are doing the same thing with the left wing board."

And guess what? We'll be doing the same thing after the next elections too. This new person will have 2 maybe 3 years in the job.

    At best.

What we need is a person to run the school system like a business. If there is not success, someone needs to look at the production of the workers (teachers). If they are not performing, replace them.

"Vouchers will hurt the public school system people."

How can it be any worse than it already is?

I love how politics influence our educational system! Note to Tata lovers he was a right wing candidate selected from the right wing board. He had little educational knowledge. He came from cooperate America of all places. Burns was before him and left because of the polarization on the board. Now we are doing the same thing with the left wing board. I just want people who love our kids and want our system to do better. I do not want their political views. Vouchers will hurt the public school system people. Do your research!!

This is what I have to say about education. A-students teach, B-students work for C-students. Think about it. C-students have common sense and good work ethics.

Sutton states the wake finalists are veteran educators. Well that is the problem. We need a superintendent other than an educator. The superintendent for this board will be nothing but a rubber stamp for their policies. Sort of like Holder for obama.

Hopefully, vouchers will someday eliminate these positions. Then these kind of government dole types can go compete in the real world.

  • whatelseisnew May 28, 2013

What a shame and what a waste of Taxpayer money. The Dems on that board should all resign and they should pay the cost of their unnecessary decision out of their pockets.

  • stymieindurham May 28, 2013

Wouldn't waste my time on that board's selections.
