SunTrust banks robbed in Raleigh, Durham

Police in Raleigh were searching Friday for a man who robbed a bank, while Durham police apprehended a suspected bank robber.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Police in Raleigh were searching Friday for a man who robbed a bank, while Durham police apprehended a suspected bank robber.

A masked man entered the SunTrust branch at 4207 Pleasant Valley Road in Raleigh at about 10:15 a.m. and robbed several tellers before fleeing the scene, police said. The robber didn't display a weapon or imply that he had a weapon, police said.

The robber was described as a black man with a light or medium complexion, about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 160 pounds. He was wearing a dark warm-up jacket, dark trousers, a knit hat and sunglasses.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-HELP.

In Durham, a man walked into the SunTrust branch at 2714 Erwin Road at about 9:10 a.m. and handed a teller a note indicating that he had a gun, police said. He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A short time later, K-9 Officer Moses Irving spotted a man matching the description of the robber on South LaSalle Street near the bridge over the Durham Freeway and arrested him, police said.

Darryl Wayne Barbee, 50, of South Street was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and communicating threats.
