— State Department of Transportation officials on Monday awarded a $1.9 million contract to replace the bridge on Sunset Lake Road over Terrible Creek in southern Wake County.

The new bridge will replace a 59-year-old structure that is considered structurally deficient, which means engineers have had to monitor the bridge to ensure it maintains its structural integrity.

Atwell Construction Co. of Greenville will begin work on the bridge on June 29, and the new span is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 15, 2010. A temporary bridge will be built next to the new bridge to be used as a detour for traffic between Fuquay-Varina and Holly Springs during construction.

I agree with both post below me, and 35mph on that road is a joke!

If this is the bridge I'm thinking about ( Pass Bass Lake RD going towards 401) it's about time. That's one narrow bridge to start with. It's difficult to go over that bridge above 45mph with traffic comming the other way.

While they are at it they need to bring the speed limit back up to 45 and 55mph like it used to be. Going 35 on that road really sucks!
