RALEIGH, N.C. — Sunday will be unseasonably warm for February and overcast, and the balmy temperatures will last for much of the work week.

When you go outside, it will be tempting to put away those winter coats and get your spring clothes out of the closet. Temperatures were already in the upper 60s on Sunday morning, and the Triangle can expect a high in the low 70s by the afternoon.

"Temperatures are way above normal for this time of year," said WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss.

According to Moss, rain is likely for most of Sunday, and that chance will increase closer to the evening hours. "We'll have about a 50 percent chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms," said Moss. "For most areas, we'll likely have significant stretches of dry weather, but the potential is there almost anytime for a patch of rain to develop and pass through. Showers may become more frequent and widespread tonight into early tomorrow."

While visibility has improved from Saturday, fog is still very possible for Sunday and Monday.

7-Day Forecast

Monday will be rainy and warm again, with highs in the mid 60s, and, compared to Sunday, there will be a better chance for more persistent rain.

Heat Index

A cold front Monday will bring the temperatures down a bit ahead of Tuesday, which will be cooler with a high in the low 50s. The unseasonably warm trend will continue on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, as highs are expected to remain in the upper 60s and low 70s.

Wednesday's forecast should be partly to mostly cloudy and warmer, with highs in the mid to upper 60s before the possibility for rain again on Thursday.
