My first stop at Sunni Sky's was last summer after a trip to Noah's Landing, a small zoo in Coats.

The folks at Noah's Landing told me all about a great ice cream place that wasn't too far away. With my two ice cream loving kids in tow, how could I pass that up? So we traveled a few miles over to Angier and pulled into Sunni Sky's.

Wow, it was good! My group didn't know what to choose as we scanned the more than 100 homemade ice cream options.

I thought I'd found some sort of secret Triangle ice cream destination until I posted a picture of the menu on Go Ask Mom's Facebook page. Dozens liked the picture and shared their own love of the spot and favorite flavors.

So, I guess ... not so secret.

It's a bit of a drive to Sunni Sky's from my house, but I knew we'd need to make it back at least once this summer.

Go Ask Mom readers gave me a great reason when they let me know about Dr. Young's Pond Berry Farm, also in Angier and another featured spot in our Summer Treats series. We spent the morning picking berries and then headed to Sunni Sky's for a treat.

They encourage you to try a few samples before settling on your flavor. My younger daughter knew exactly what she wanted - the cotton candy flavor. My older daughter took her time before she settled on the raspberry sherbet. I went with the coconut fudge.

The menu includes some odd flavors, including Cold Sweat, made with peppers so hot that you have to sign a waiver to even try it. My colleagues over at Out & About took on that challenge last summer.

Me ... I'm going to stick to the sweet ice cream flavors. I'm thinking the peach cobbler variety has my name written all over it.
