Summer Skin Cancer Prevention Tips

Hey there, DIy fanatics! It's finally summer, and I bet you're enjoying time outdoors working on your garden and your house. There's so much to love about summer home projects, from eating garden fresh tomatoes to finally repainting the house. We'd like to just give you a quick little reminder to look after your skin. Those UVA and UVB rays are very strong!
1. Seek shade during mid-day hours: The CDC recommends staying in the shade during mid-day hours, when there is the higest risk for UV exposure. We know that a lot of people in the building trades, especially roofers, have to be outside in the sun all day. If you cannot avoid being in the sun all day, you can still protect yourself.
2. Protect your skin with clothing, a hat, and sunglasses: I know a lot of contractors near Denver, and in the summertime they wear long sleeved shirts, long pants, and visors on the job. Anyone working outside for that long will sweat off sunscreen. In addition to sun protection, long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and hats provide protection from mosquitoes, which cannot be underestimated.
3. Wear sunscreen: The CDC crecommends wearing sunscreen with full spectrum protection, and an SPF of 15 or higher. Read the label of the sunscreen for instructions for proper application. Reapply the sunscreen every two hours, or after swimming or sweating.
4. Avoid indoor tanning: The CDC advises against indoor tanning. They say that it is linked to several kinds of cancer. You're going to have to be tanorexic.
