Stun gun used on infant, three others in Clinton home invasion

Sampson County deputies responding to a burglary in progress in the 6800 block of Hobbton Highway at about 5:15 p.m. found two men at the house wearing dark clothing and tactical vests with "SWAT" printed on them, authorities said.

The men ran off, and one was apprehended nearby armed with a stun gun and a pellet gun. A K-9 team was called in to find the other man, and he was taken into custody in a wooded area behind the house a short time later.

Investigators said the two men, along with a third man who fled the scene in a gray vehicle before deputies arrived, had forced their way into the home to rob it. The house was occupied by a 47-year-old man, a 36-year-old woman and five children ranging in age from 13 years to 4 months.

The woman, Yudi Coleman, said Wednesday that the intruders demanded money, and she gave them the keys to her car and told them she had only $120. She said she has no idea who the men are or why they targeted her home.

"They didn't want that money, so they started beating me, and they dragged me across the room," Coleman said through an interpreter. "Then they grabbed my 5-year-old boy and tased him on the neck."

Coleman's 11-year-old niece hid in a closet and called for help during the break-in, authorities said, but when one of the intruders found her, he pointed a gun at her face and threatened to kill her.

“It is despicable that someone would torture children, and for what? A little cash," Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton said in a statement. "I am thankful that we were able to capture at least two of the three individuals responsible for this heinous act. We will continue to work diligently to identify the third suspect.”

Naquan Lavert Bryant, 20, of 2162 Spring Forest Road in Raleigh, and Rashad Eugene Curlee, 26, of 2910-11 Capital Blvd. in Raleigh, were each charged with the following crimes: six counts of second-degree kidnapping, four counts of assault by pointing a gun, three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts each of assault on a child under 12 and simple assault and one count each of first-degree kidnapping, attempted first-degree forcible rape, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit breaking and entering, burglary involving forcible entry, assault with a deadly weapon, impersonation of a law enforcement officer, interfering with emergency communications and resisting officers.

Both men were being held in the Sampson County jail under $1 million bonds.

Sampson County paramedics treated the four stun gun victims at the scene.
