SANFORD, N.C. — No students were injured Monday afternoon when a bullet went through a window of a Lee County school bus, officials said Wednesday.

Eight students from Warren Williams Alternative Elementary School were on the bus when a bullet hit the window as the bus traveled on Cox Maddox Road near Mount Pisgah Church Road in Sanford, officials said.

The bullet hit several seats behind where the students were seated, and school administrators believe the incident was an accident, said Sharon Spence, spokeswoman for Lee County Schools.

Still, Sanford police are investigating.

Spence said the window has been repaired, and the bus was running its normal routes on Wednesday.
