DURHAM, N.C. — Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred early Wednesday morning inside a North Carolina Central University dorm.

Two students reported the robbery at New Residence Hall 2 in the northeast area of campus shortly after midnight, according to a news release from the school. One of the victims walked into a dorm to find two people searching the room while another victim was inside.

Both victims were restrained by the suspects, who displayed a gun. No injuries were reported.

The dorm where the robbery was reported, like all dorms on campus, is accessed with a key card.

"We make sure that people coming in and out of our halls are supposed to be there," said Zakiel Morla, a residential advisor. "We make sure we keep logs of who is coming in and out. Make sure they have ID cards with them so they can scan into the building."

The suspects reportedly stole several items from the room, but the school did not disclose what was taken.

Since the incident, campus police have increased their patrols. Officers have also asked students to report anything suspicious, and to be extra vigilant about safety.

Deidre Adams, a NCCU student, says she will be much more aware on campus.

"I have to work late, so I have to walk up here by myself, and I'm afraid that it could possibly happen to me," she said.

"Students will be more aware, looking around, where they want to go and stuff like that. I'm sure we will," said Armani Lanier, a NCCU student.

Police said the two men were wearing all black and covered the lower part of their faces with black scarves.

Anyone with information about the robbery should call NCCU police at 919-530-6106.
