— A North Carolina State University junior facing a felony charge in the death of a bicyclist will plead guilty Thursday, his attorney said.

Brian Anthony Reid, 21, is charged with felony death by motor vehicle and driving while impaired in the April 23 death of Nancy Leidy.

Leidy, 60, died after she was struck by a pickup truck while she was riding her bicycle on Nazareth Street near the N.C. State campus.

According to court records, Reid registered a 0.12 in an alcohol breath test and admitted to police that he had been drinking when he struck Leidy.

Authorities said he had been celebrating his 21st birthday.

"I think that you should do some soul searching on the extremism you have chivegas. You might find that you are wrong."

Sorry Chivegas, I mis-typed. That should go to the one you are having the argument with. Again, my apologies.

"And yes, by definition, a DUI makes you a drunk."

No, it doesn't. A DWI does.

A DUI means that you can be driving under the influence of a medical condition, like Diabetes and be charged with a DUI. You could have taken a prescribed drug and be charged with it because of how the drug interacts with your system. It does not mean that you stopped by a bar - did a beer bong - then started driving. That is just plain ignorance.

"Alcoholism: a chronic disorder marked by excessive and usually compulsive drinking of alcohol leading to psychological and physical dependence or addiction."

Funny how I will say that I don't need a drink, but I think I will have one.

I don't remember ever needing to drink before driving.

I think someone's opinion of what an alcoholic is and what an alcoholic is what the problem is here.

The same with ones who love dogs who say anyone who takes a newspaper to a bad puppy is abusing it. Like what PETA does.

I think that you should do some soul searching on the extremism you have chivegas. You might find that you are wrong.

I am by no means an alcoholic. I can take a perfectly good beer out of the fridge, open it, set it down and not drink a drop of it and forget where I put it. An alcoholic will never forget where his lifeline is.

I think your accident should have allowed you access to a psychologist to help you get over your accident. The exception is not the rule.

oldschoolhole: Citing wikipedia with a reference to a bunch of dead links is not an intelligent (or even unintelligent) way to make your alleged point that anyone who drinks is an alcoholic. After some intelligent research, I found out why you spew it like you do. It was developed by a UNC researcher.

I only responded to this thread to contradict your false assertion that: "And yes, by definition, a DUI makes you a drunk." Even if you use your beloved CAGE method, it's quite possible, even probable that many would only answer yes to one question. If you read the fine print, it also states that: "Two "yes" responses indicate that the respondent should be investigated further." That doesn't label them an alcoholic, just says it needs more investigation. Perhaps you should learn your own study

For your information, I live downtown. I walk to and from the establishments I choose.

Your attempts to paint me as an alcoholic highlight your lack of ability to follow a linear argument

chivegas - no doubt you've failed it - within the parameters it is designed to test rather than the global extrapolation you tried to obfuscate with. Really, it would behoove you to read the wikipedia entry provided for your edification before you project so pitiably. It is apparent you are greatly invested in minimizing the public health risks self-indulgent drunks who insist on driving pose to sober folk - try a cab buddy.

oldschoolhole: From m-w.com: "Alcoholism: a chronic disorder marked by excessive and usually compulsive drinking of alcohol leading to psychological and physical dependence or addiction."

    Thanks for coming out.

As far as your CAGE questionnaire goes, I've failed it when totally sober with the way I've handled a speech, or a conversation with a loved one, a boss, or many other normal life issues.

You can see my post over in the UNC student thread about how this country pushes college kids into binge drinking with our leaders embracing the same alcohol ignorance you display. If our country didn't treat alcohol as a "forbidden fruit" and kids could learn to drink with parental supervision (like most of the rest of the world)...then they wouldn't have to wait to learn to drink from others who binge drink everytime they get some freedom and booze.

"What happened to the guilt of the act being enough punishment?"

You're joking right? That won't hold up in any court because many people feel no guilt, and because all have to be tried and convicted or freed by the same laws.

Do you remember the repeated drunk driver who ran into the side of a minivan and killed the 4-year old named Megan a couple of years back on W-64???

He NEVER got it! He couldn't understand why he would even be charged because it was an accident. Even though he was driving drunk and had had his license revoked.

Where was the guilt in that man's heart??? Did his excuses bring the little girl back???

    God bless.

Here I'll spoon feed you a little basic drunk education - read this and quit looking so dumb -

  • oldschooltarheel Aug 18, 2008

chivegas - no I simply provide care for the damaged ones (& the drunks if I am batter up). Oh and I was hit by a drunk illegal alien in Durham county in 2003. Funny how you just have to keep fighting a definition.

"We have to pay for him to be in jail, and it is obvious he has the talents to produce an income."

He also obviously has the talents to drink, drive and kill someone.

    God bless.
