Student charged with setting fire at Johnston High

A 17-year-old student is accused of starting a fire at North Johnston High School.

KENLY, N.C. — A 17-year-old student is accused of starting a fire at North Johnston High School.

Authorities said that Destany Diona Edwards, of Selma, started the fire in a bathroom at the high school in Kenly around 9:45 a.m. Monday.

The school building was briefly evacuated while firefighters put out the blaze. It caused about $4,000 in damage.

Edwards was placed in the Johnston County jail under a $100,000 secured bond.
