Father, children among 5 people killed in Harnett County house fire

At least five people were killed Sunday after a major fire flattened a home in Harnett County.

BROADWAY, N.C. — At least five people were killed Sunday after a major fire flattened a home in Harnett County.

According to investigators with the Harnett County Sheriff's Office, Daniel Garner, 39, and his two young sons died in the fire, along with the homeowners, Michael Breymeyer, 74, and his wife Tammy Breymeyer, 58.

The fire happened on the 200 block of Camp Ground Lane in Broadway, North Carolina.

According to the sheriff's office, Garner was a family friend of the Breymeyers and was staying with them at the time.

Footage from Sky 5 showed the home completely destroyed, with crews moving through the rubble. Charred furniture could be barely made out, and the walls, roof and even foundation were unrecognizable.

An investigation is ongoing.

The American Red Cross is assisting the surviving family members.
