Strong front to bring cooler air, showers to Triangle
High temperatures will climb into the low 80s on the final day of the work week, but an approaching cold could produce scattered showers Friday evening as it ushers cooler air into central and eastern North Carolina, WRAL meteorologist Nate Johnson said.

"Everybody is going to climb into the 80s today, and we'll have partly cloudy skies for the bulk of the day," he said. "That could change this evening, however, as a big storm system moving across the mid-South heads toward the east."
Temperatures were in the upper 70s at lunchtime under partly cloudy skies. Winds will increase throughout the afternoon thanks to the approaching front, possibly gusting up to 25 mph during the afternoon and evening.
More clouds will filter into the area by 4 or 5 p.m., and rain chances will climb to about 30 percent during the evening. Widespread rain is not expected, and some parts of the Triangle could stay dry.
"We won't get any severe weather in our area," Johnson said. "Our rain chances increase during the evening and overnight, and clouds will be getting out of here by early Saturday morning."
Highs Saturday and Sunday will be near normal for early April, topping out in the upper 60s under partly cloudy skies. Overnight lows over the weekend will be in the 40s.
"We are going to have a beautiful weekend thanks to the cooler temperatures," Johnson said. "Our next chance for rain doesn't happen until Monday."
