The Streets at Southpoint is taking a different spin on the traditional Santa visit at the mall.

The Durham mall will hold spirit nights this week where Santa will swap his usual red suit for college paraphernalia from a different local university each night. Mascots, athletic departments, student groups and alumni associations will join in the fun.

The school that brings the most alumni and students to the event to show their support in the form of purchased Santa photo packages will get a $1,000 donation to their school's alumni association.

Here's the schedule:

  • 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, NCCU Spirit Night with Santa. Volunteers from the alumni association will be at mall collecting non-perishable food items and unwrapped toys for their food and toy drive. There will be performances by NCCU Cheerleaders, NCCU Alumni Choir, and an appearance by "Eddie" the Eagle from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Giveaways will be provided each hour. Santa will be wearing NCCU paraphernalia, and of course, you can take pictures with him.
  • 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, N.C. State Spirit Night with Santa. The N.C. State cheerleaders will sell autographed copies of their 2013 calendar. There will be an appearance by Mr. Wuf from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Representatives from N.C. State athletics will be on-site promoting their winter and spring sports season. Santa will be wearing Wolfpack paraphernalia and of course you can take pictures with him
  • 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, UNC Spirit Night with Santa. Representatives from UNC Athletics will be on-site promoting their fall and winter sports season along with a special appearance by "Rameses" the UNC mascot from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Shoppers will have the chance to win free basketball tickets, an autographed football from Coach Fedora and an autographed basketball from Coach Williams. Student volunteers from UNC Global Medical Brigades will be providing gift wrapping for donations to raise money for its annual trip to Honduras. They will also be accepting donations of shoes, clothing and over-the-counter medications.
  • 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, Duke Spirit Night with Santa. Representatives from Duke Athletics will be on-site promoting Women’s Basketball and Men’s Basketball along with a special appearance from the mascot.
