The State Farmers' Market in Raleigh gears up for some big events during the growing season that highlight various produce that's in season.

This week, the strawberry gets its day during Strawberry Day, which is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday. The event includes free samples of strawberry ice cream, a visit from Suzy the Strawberry, a dessert contest, free recipes and lots of fresh, local strawberries for sale.

Be sure to mark your calendar for other market events coming up. They include Crawfish Day on June 6; Blueberry Day on June 18; Peach Day on July 9; and Watermelon Day on July 30.

The market is on Lake Wheeler Road near its exit with Interstate 40.
