Bidens participate in Easter Egg Roll, one of the oldest traditions in White House history

Thousands of North Carolina eggs will be the main attraction at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, which returns Monday for the first time in two years.

Braswell Farms in Nash County is supplying 18,000 hard boiled eggs for the event. The farm dyed and delivered the eggs to the White House this week.

The first and second families plan to attend the event, which, dating back to 1878, is one of the oldest traditions in White House history, around 10:15 a.m. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden are expected to speak at the celebration.

Thousands of families from all over the country will gather at the White House for Joe Biden's first Easter Egg Roll as president. Jill Biden, a teacher for more than 30 years, took an active roll in planning this year's event, which has a theme titled "Egg-ucation."

In addition to the egg roll tradition, where children use wooden spoons to roll eggs across the White House lawn, there will be a "cafetorium," where families will learn new recipes, a talent show, a reading nook and a photo station.

The egg roll was paused for two years during COVID-19. It was also canceled during World War I and again during World War II.

The White House will also resume public tours, which were paused in early 2020 due to the pandemic. According to a White House statement, the situation will be monitored closely based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as other health officials.
